12/28/2023 0 Comments Drone sean beanBelieving he is responsible for the deaths of his wife and child, an enigmatic Pakistani businessman (Patrick Sabongui) tracks him down, leading to a harrowing confrontation. Neil (Sean Bean) is a private drone contractor who spends his workdays flying covert missions then returns to a family life of suburban mediocrity – without his wife or son knowing about his secret life – until a whistle-blowing site exposes him to a deadly threat. But they're also responsible for a Dolph Lundgren movie called Shark Lake, and I don't know about you, but there is a 100% probability that I'll watch a Lundgren movie about sharks in a lake before I'll watch Drone.ĭrone hits theaters on May 26. This movie hails from a company called Screen Media Films, who released indie films like Faults, Alex of Venice, and The Void. But it'd almost be worse if things go down differently in the actual movie, because then it means that the marketing team thinks that using visual shorthand like this is acceptable. I know it can be difficult, but we have to stop perpetuating stereotypes if any meaningful change is going to happen. To be fair, this is just a trailer, so there's a chance the final film doesn't play out the way we think it does. I've seen comments questioning why we'd write about trailers for indie films like this if we didn't want to promote them, but it can be just as important to call out things we see as problematic in the hopes that other filmmakers won't make the same mistakes in the future. The imagery on display here is xenophobic, reductive, and lazy, and the continued proliferation of images like this in film and television has contributed to the harsh division we're experiencing in the world right now. What I can't deal with is the turn it takes around the 1:20 mark, which positions this grieving man as a bomber out for revenge. I referred to this as "jaw-dropping" not because it's great, but because my jaw literally dropped in disbelief when I saw the direction co-writer/director Jason Bourque takes this story. The concept of an icy drone operator realizing the consequences of his job is not an inherently bad one, but when it's revealed that a man whose family was killed by Bean's drone actually encounters him face to face, it starts to get a little ridiculous.īut "ridiculous" is fine. But overheated family confessions meet SWAT team conventions at the climax, and little resonates in their wake.Lord of the Rings star and legendary on-screen death machine Sean Bean stars in a new film called Drone, and the movie's jaw-dropping first trailer has arrived. The movie opens with a bravura sequence set in Pakistan, and the script, by Mr. When Imir stops by Neil’s house and offers to buy a boat he has inherited, Neil, touched by his gentle earnestness, invites him over for supper, only to learn that Imir knows Neil’s work history - and lost his wife and daughter in one of Neil’s aerial assaults. His sensitive son, Shane (Maxwell Haynes), bonded with Neil’s father as the old man was dying, while Neil can’t even compose a eulogy. His wife, Ellen (Mary McCormack, solid), is having an affair. Neil, an alcoholic who hides his actual job from the members of his family, is as removed from them as he is from the citizens in Pakistan he inadvertently kills with a missile controlled from his office. contractor in Washington State, and Imir Shaw (Patrick Sabongui), a visitor to his home with an ulterior motive. “ Drone” sticks to the home front, following Neil Wistin (Sean Bean), a drone pilot on assignments for a covert C.I.A. Those films examined the moral struggles of military personnel as they conduct missions with clinical precision while far removed from danger. Jason Bourque’s modest, proficient thriller “ Drone” scrutinizes the ethics of warfare by remote control, an issue dramatized with greater effectiveness in Gavin Hood’s “ Eye in the Sky,” from 2016, and Andrew Niccol’s “ Good Kill,” from 2015.

I believe the original underlying issue was something to do with different PATH variables for 32-bit and 64-bit environments and possibly some internal Windows redirection that takes place automatically. ActivePerl is best suited for those that. If you had a PowerShell window open before setting the PATH variable, you will need to close it and re-open another instance of PowerShell. 12/28/2023 0 Comments Long road to mercyOur Overall RatingĬOVER DESIGN – 3 STARS – The colors choices are bold and bright but the title is deceivingĬHARACTERIZATION – 4 STARS – The characters were well developed and Atlee had some interesting traits for a woman. Overall, some members loved it and are anxious to read the next book in the series which is currently available to pre0ordr on Amazon by the way. When an author tends to do this, I personally will not read their books. I’ve never like this tactic and think it’s highly unfair to the reader. When I invest my time in a book, I expect a complete story and not be forced to buy the next one. I, in particular, wasn’t pleased with the unfinished ending. The ending was also a disappointment for some of us because it ended with a cliff hanger. I almost felt like I had been deceived by the switch and bait method that was used to draw a reader in. A huge disappointment for me and I soon began to lose interest in the book. I and a few others in the group kept reading hoping it would shift back to the case of the missing sister but it didn’t. It was almost like two stories thrown into one book. None of this had anything to do with how we were pulled into the book in the beginning. Suddenly the story switched gears and it’s now all about a dead mule that was found at the bottom of the Grand Canyon and the missing rider. Sounds good, doesn’t it? I was on board and wanted to know too what happened to her. The first few chapters of the book gave the impression that this was going to be a story about Atlee trying to get to the bottom of what happened to her sister. She believed the prisoner was the man who took her twin sister over thirty years ago. It began with Atlee’s interrogation in a high-security prison where only the worst of criminals were housed. We all agreed, the book pulled us in straight away. They will take you away from your comfort zone and the genres you normally read and many times introduce you to new authors that you’d probably never discover if it wasn’t for being a suggestion at the book clubĪnyway back to the book. Others in the group loved it and even brought more of his books after reading this one. The book was pretty much the setting foundation of the main character, Atlee Pine by way of what some of us thought was a very confusing and mixed storyline. First of all, I don’t think any of us realized before reading it that it was the first book in a series (An Atlee Pine Thriller Book 1). This was another book that created mixed feelings amongst the group. But unless Pine keeps working the case and discovers the truth, it could spell the very end of democracy in America as we know it… Our Review If she disobeys direct orders by continuing to search for the missing man, it will mean the end of her career. But just as Pine begins to put together clues pointing to a terrifying plot, she’s abruptly called off the case. It soon seems clear the lost tourist had something more clandestine than sightseeing in mind. So, when one of the Grand Canyon’s mules is found stabbed to death at the bottom of the canyon and its rider missing- Pine is called in to investigate. She’s the lone agent assigned to the Shattered Rock, Arizona resident agency, which is responsible for protecting the Grand Canyon. Three decades after that terrifying night, Atlee Pine works for the FBI. It’s seared into Atlee Pine’s memory: the kidnapper’s chilling rhyme as he chose between six-year-old Atlee and her twin sister, Mercy. Once you begin a land war continually replenish your main army and recruit replacement units as necessary. The ideal army for most of the early game is a general, a single unit of cavalry, a single unit of mobile artillery, and seventeen units of line infantry. These missions are scripted and often reward you for conquering regions you are after anyhow. Pay attention to any missions that arise as you are playing. So do not spend valuable time and money building garrison forces to protect islands, yes even Britain. The AI will rarely if ever make amphibious landings. Doing this will both make your colonies easier to defend and will give you a monopoly on the valuable commodities here. If you have interests in the Americas try to establish control over the entire theater. The upkeep costs of the ships you can avoid paying will often offset lost trade income. Do not invest in a navy however if you have no strategic interests separated by oceans. These ships will generate huge amounts of wealth if you can protect them. If you plan to maintain a large navy invest in trade ships and send them to South America and Africa. Once war breaks out in Europe most alliances beyond what you start the game with will quickly become liabilities souring your diplomatic prospects with all the other nations. This will make the eventual battle much easier as the opposing force will not be barricaded in a fort, it is very rare that the computer will actually use this extra time to try to break the siege with another army.ĭo not spend early turns pursuing alliances and trade routes. Also never enter into offensive siege battles, instead siege the city with your army for the two to five turns. While mobilizing an invasion you should ignore forts and other buildings, only attack region capitals. If during an offensive other nations declare war on you that hold no regions of strategic value to you attempt to repair relations with the nation by giving them state gifts. Once you begin to mobilize your forces against an enemy continue your offensive until the enemy controls no land route to attack you or is completely destroyed. If you plan to mobilize forces in another theater first, move your large home armies to that theater aboard a naval vessel.Set your initial school to research a technology, especially either Plug Bayonets, Common Land Enclosures, or Physiocracy.Build buildings on any resource spots that are empty, especially plantations.Move any weak fleets/armies together so that they are not quickly destroyed by your enemies.During this period you need to do all of the following: You should spend at least the first five turns establishing your infrastructure. 12/27/2023 0 Comments Simple math of early retirementChanges in government regulations may affect everything from taxation to access to your retirement funds, and more unpredictable emergencies are likely to crop up when you have decades of retirement to cover. Over decades of time, your income and/or expenses are likely to change in ways you can’t predict. Final ThoughtsĪs with any prediction, the earlier you plan on retiring, the less accurate your financial estimates are likely to be. You can also plug in inflation and tax rates to make your estimate more reliable. That way you can input a wide range of variables, from savings rates during your accumulation phase to variable spending rates in retirement. For example, a 40-year retirement using simple math would require $2 million under this scenario, while a 30-year retirement would require $1.5 million, and so on.īut to get a more accurate estimate of when you can really retire, you should consult with a financial advisor and/or use one of the many early retirement calculators you can find online. If $2.5 million seems too daunting, but you still want to live off $50,000 per year of your retirement, then you’ll have to delay the date at which you can retire. That rate is easily achievable, but you’ll have to factor in taxes and inflation, meaning you’d likely have to earn double that amount. With $2.5 million in assets, that would amount to an annual interest rate of 2%. That is a simple example that doesn’t really account for inflation, but it makes the point.Īnother way to look at it is that you have to save enough so your portfolio will kick off $50,000 per year in income. In other words, if you want to draw an average of $50,000 per year for 50 years, you’ll need $2.5 million. The simplest way to find out when you can retire is to compare this number with the total amount you think you can save. It’s best here to add a buffer of more years than you may think because life expectancies are much longer now than they were for your parents. Also, don’t forget to factor in inflation, which will likely more than double the cost of things between your retirement date and a more traditional retirement age.Īfter making adjustments for things like inflation, multiply the amount you want per year by the number of years of your anticipated retirement. Don’t forget to factor in all of the expenses listed above, depending on the type of lifestyle you want to lead. What’s the earliest you can retire? Let’s do some math.įirst, calculate how much you intend to spend every year that you are retired. Story continues What Does the Math Look Like? Plus, as you age, you’ll have to factor in variables like rising health and prescription costs, insurance and possibly long-term care. While you are young, you might be saving every last penny to retire early, but once you’re done working, you’re likely going to want to do more things that cost money, such as travel or eating out or even just living with more free time on your hands. You can start with your current expenses to get a gauge as to how much income you’ll need annually if you retire, but the truth is your expenses are likely to vary a great deal as you age. Live Richer Podcast: Unexpected Ways Losing a Spouse Can Affect Your Finances and Retirement ExpensesĮxpenses are hard to project over the long run. But with an early retirement, that might not be for 30 or more years. So you’ll have to plan to live off investment income, at least until your Social Security kicks in. Remember that if you truly retire early, the income you have now will not exist. Not only will you have to stretch your assets over a longer retirement, but you’ll also have fewer years to earn that income before you retire. This is where retiring early becomes something of a double-edged sword. The longer you’ll be retired, the more assets and income you’ll need. Whether you’re retiring at 30 or 80, you’ll have to accumulate enough assets so that the income they generate will fund your lifestyle on a permanent basis. 12/27/2023 0 Comments Fantastical 2 pdf expert bundle 9to5
